It turns out that coffee is beneficial for athletes. It increases training efficiency and helps improve athletic performance by 2-16%.
The benefits of coffee for physical activity and sports were reported by Australian researchers. Their data was published in Medical Express. According to expert scientists, the main component of coffee, caffeine, not only invigorates and improves concentration, but also increases endurance – all of which directly affects the results of athletic activities.
The opinion of scientists is supported by the results of a meta-analysis of more than 300 studies that analyzed the effect of caffeine on human physical activity. The researchers stated: drinking coffee approximately 45-90 minutes before training makes it more effective. For example, in this case, people perform more weight training exercises in the gym. Thanks to caffeine, the performance of runners and cyclists also improves.
“A caffeine dose of 3 to 6 mg per kilogram of body weight is required to improve athletic performance,” the authors of the work calculated.
At the same time, experts warn against caffeine abuse.
